In the third day of the recent “durrrr” challenge, Patrick Antonius took quite a beating from his challenger Tom “durrrr” Dwan as he split 2-2 with his rival, the latter taking home the $367,000 monster pott of the session. But it is not everyday that Patrick Antonius could be caught sweating.
The Finnish professional poker player, Patrick Antonius has a lot packed into his 30 years, taking the poker circuit by storm when he finished twice near the final table in the European Poker Tour and the World Poker Tour. There have been several feathers in Antonius’ cap, including his finishing 12th at the EPT PokerStars Caribbean Adventure and 15th at the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Stars event in 2005.
In 2005 again, Antonius reached the main event final table and finished 3rd in the European Poker Tour held in Barcelona, followed by victory in the European Poker Tour event Baden bei Wien in October. In this event, he took home booty of 288,180 euros, the first prize money. But then, in 2005, he had been on a winning streak. At the end of the year, in December, he finished 2nd in the World Poker Tour Five Diamond World Poker Classic in Las Vegas, Nevada. The prize money this time was $1,046,470.
Patrick Antonius has played consistently and eventhough he have lost several times, his career has the semblance of trailblazer’s with some master strokes he had played and classic hands he had won. In the following year, in 2006, he fared pretty well with the new seasons of the poker tournaments. It was in July same year when Patrick Antonius finished at the 9th spot at the World Series of Poker winning out $50,000 at the H.O.R.S.E. event an amount of $205,920. This was his biggest cash haul of the year. The year was quite eventful for Patrick Antonius but greater glory awaited him in the next year. In 2007, there was active participation by Antonius in the World Series of Poker and it was at the World Championship of Pot Limit Omaha that he tasted success finishing 3rd and pocketing $311,394. This was the ninth time he had bagged cash in the World Series of Poker and now his total earning from the series had gone up to $569,964.
Antonius has been featured thrice on NCB’s Poker After Dark series. When he took part in the NCB Poker After Dark series for the first time, he was a mere runner up and he had lost out to Poker pro Jennifer Harman. Antonius lost hands but not hope and in the next session he took Brad Booth head on and won the session. Again, in the third fixture of the NCB Poker After Dark series, he ended runner up, losing to Johnny Chan.
But as they say, losing and winning is all part of the game and as in 2010, the total earning of Patrik Antonius from tournaments is at $2,800,000 and still counting. The total of the cash money - he has won 12 times in the World Series of Poker is at $759,741.
There was a capacity field in the 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event and that was why Antonius was unable to enter, though attempted to register along with hundreds of others. Antonius has marked his presence in the online poker too and has been a part of the most high-profile events. In the Full Tilt Poker in 2008 he finished second taking home $25,000, while his earnings in the the buy-in Heads-Up Pot Limit Omaha Championship was $320,000.
Antonius has been active on the Big Game of Bellagio, where stakes are among the highest. The third, fourth and fifth seasons of GSN’s High Stakes Poker, Antonius was part of the largest pot and raked in $749,100 outdoing Sammy Farha. With a J♥ 9♥ A Antonius held for top pair, Farha held K♦ Q♦, and Antonius got over-cards and a flush draw. The two players had agreed to run the turn and river four times. Antonius won three of the four runs.
Though others have also taken the challenge against Tom “durrrr” Dwan, Antonius is the first to actually play against him in the “Million Dollar Challenge” on Full Tilt Poker.
The biggest achievement of Patrik Antonius so far is his winning of $1,356,946 against Isildur in November 2009. It is the one of the largest hauls in the history of online Poker.
