In the world of Poker, usually dominated by men, Jennifer Harman is an icon that changes the perception. She happens to be the most successful female Poker player and is a source of inspiration for numerous Poker fans. Famous for her sweet and cheerful personality, she is loved and looked up to by millions of fans. Her successes have made her a place in the best Poker players in the world!
Born on the 29th of November in the year 1964, Jennifer was raised in Reno. She got into the world of Poker when she was just eight years old, after being highly encouraged by her father. She went on to complete her graduation from the University of Nevada, and then made Poker her professional career. This decision became a turning point in her life, as she won her first World Series of Poker bracelet in 2000 at the “No Limit Deuce to Seven Lowball” event. There is a very amusing story related to that win, which goes like this: Jennifer Harman had no prior experience of playing the game before the event, but received a five minute learning session from the legendary Howard Lederer before playing and eventually winning the table, which included the likes of Steve Zolotow and Lyle Berman.
The second bracelet came her way in 2002, when she won the $5000 “Limit Hold’em” event and is the only female Poker player in the world to have two bracelets!. She has the unique distinction of making it to three different World Poker Tour tables, and cashed over thirty tables in the World Poker Tour and World Series of Poker together.
However, she likes to play for cash games and has been regularly playing at the “Big Game” at Bobby’s room in Bellagio. At the “Big Game”, she is known to play the $4000/8000 mixed games with players like Gus Hansen and Phil Ivey for around four nights per week. Jennifer Harman lost both her mother and sister. She had to take a break from her professional career for kidney transplants, which she had to perform twice. After her second kidney transplant in 2004, she returned to the game with a bang, as she finished fourth at the World Poker Tour and second in the World Series of Poker circuit event. Till date, her total winnings sum up to 2,300,000 US dollars!
Her problems with kidneys and personal losses prompted her to do a lot of charity work. During her second transplant, she came up with the charitable organization named, “Creating Organ Donation Awareness ” (CODA), which is a non-for-profit organization and generally raises money for charity purposes. This also prompted her to organize a few charity poker tournaments, including events that starred celebrities like Ho Ward Lederer and Lon McEachern. Her fan base was there for everyone to see, as one of such special events in March 2009 helped them contribute more than $110,000 to the National Kidney Foundation.
Apart from playing poker, she is the author of “Limit Hold’em” chapter of Super System II. Moreover she is part of the core team of “Full Tilt Poker”, started by the legendary Chris Ferguson.
On the personal front, Jennifer is a different woman altogether. Keeping aside her monumental achievements in the world of Poker, she is quite a nervous wife who never wants to hurt her husband, a truly caring mother of twins, and a friend who always has the time for others. Moreover, she is a proud owner of four dogs, whom she loves a lot. Her hobbies include skiing and doing Pilates, and she enjoys listening to music and watching movies. She happens to be a perfect example of an achiever who beats the odds to make it big in the world of Poker!
